Travelar: The Darkened Age
Forming the deep harbor of Tyren is Deep Poole – a natural forming body of water that feeds the great Riverest that flows east through the kingdoms of Belfry, Hillsfar, and beyond to the dark Spiritsong Forest.
The most unique feature of the Deep Poole is the harbor gate leading into Tyren. When Tyren fell into the hands of the Archmage, she had the skull of the Ancient Red Wyrm that Vendas the Paladin King had slain procured from the bottom of the deep harbor and magically melded to the twin rocks that create the harbors natural gate, thus create a macabre canal into the city whose passage is the maw of the dragon’s skull.
The Deep Poole and respectively the Riverest are fed by a great body of water originating in the Underdark underneath Tyren. Rumors speak of water walks – magical corridors of space traversable by anyone holding the magic key to open them – that run from the piers and rocky outcroppings of Tyren harbor down into the murky depths leading to the underdark. In the Silver Age, a great undercity of merfolk lived within the harbor and happily co-existed with the folks of Tyren’s pier, but with Tyren now harboring nefarious clientele more often than not, the merfolk of the Deep Poole keep to themselves – fiercely guarding their city from what foul things find their way through the harbor and below. Even so, it is said that the Merfolk of deep poole know all the going-on’s in the water of Tyren Harbor, and if one could befriend the stoic merfolk, they would be privy to much information indeed.
